Call first
Start by calling the office if you’re in severe pain or have an appliance problem you cannot manage on your own.
Ease discomfort
Some issues can be temporarily relieved at home, such as gently moving a poking wire away from the cheek or covering it with wax.
Save pieces
If part of your appliance comes loose or falls off, keep it and bring it with you to your repair appointment.
Come in
After you have reduced the discomfort, we’ll schedule a time to repair the problem and get treatment back on track.

True orthodontic emergencies are very rare. In general, you should call if you have severe pain or a painful appliance problem that you cannot take care of yourself.
What should I do if a wire is poking me?
You may be able to gently push the wire toward the tooth or brace using a blunt object like the back of a spoon or a pencil eraser. If it still irritates the area, place wax on the wire.
Do I still need to call if I fix it temporarily?
Yes. Even after you relieve the discomfort at home, the office asks that you call our Centreville emergency orthodontist as soon as possible to schedule a repair.
What if part of my appliance comes off?
Save the piece and bring it with you to the office. That can help during your repair visit.
What happens after office hours?
During non-business hours, patients are asked to follow the instructions on the office answering service, and the team will get back to them as soon as possible.
